Feature Questions

Why did you choose Saint Joseph's College?

Saint Joseph's had in my eyes the best balance of what I wanted in a college: A competitive swim team, a strong sciences department, and a Pre pharmacy program.

What is/was your favorite class at St. Joe's and why?

My favorite class by far was Medical Microbiology with Professor Sernyk. She made the class so interesting and the interactions of the drugs and bacteria appealed to my inner geek.

What was your first job (actually received a paycheck)?

I worked and still work at Hannaford Brothers in North Windham.

Who would you like to trade places for a day with and why?

I think it would be interesting to trade places with an explorer from the Victorian era just to see what it felt like to discover things never seen before by modern man.

What is on your "Bucket List?"

I would love to go to Ireland at some point.

Talent you'd most like to have:

I wish I could juggle or had my pilot’s license.

What do you drive?

I drive "Pearl", a 2002 Ford Explorer.

What is your motto?

Honestly I don't really have one other than always doing my absolute best.

Do you have any superstitions before you go into a big event?

As I'm going out on deck I need to be listening to Shoot to Thrill by AC/DC, and I don't let my goggles out of my sight during the meet. I put my goggles and cap 50 yards before my event, always goggles first. My feet have certain spots that they go on the blocks, with the right foot forwards, and I always come down to the ready position the second I get up there. I do one triceps shake before they call "take your mark" and then I am ready.

What is your most memorable moment as an athlete at SJC?

I have two. One of them is when I became the first Saint Joseph’s men's swimmer to earn GNAC Champion honors my freshman year. The other one was this season when we faced Elms College. Their men's team had 11 guys; ours only had six. Despite this, we were able to pull out a win with amazing swims from our entire team.

Can you tell us something about you that most people don't know?

I am an Eagle Scout.

Besides your parents, who has had the greatest impact on your life?

I think it would have to be one of my past Scoutmasters, Rick Smart. He was the main reason I stayed in Scouting and was a big role model for me in becoming the person I am today.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I will have graduated from pharmacy school and will be working either in a lab or a hospital as a clinical pharmacist.

If you could meet anyone (past or present) who would it be and why?

Theodore Roosevelt sounds like he would be a very interesting person to talk to, and he is also considered one of our greatest presidents.

What are your hobbies?

I like to work with my hands and build things. I woodwork a lot, and I'm restoring a 1950s era single cylinder engine. I also love to do anything that has to do with water: swimming, sailing, skiing, etc.

What is your ideal day away from athletics?

I love going to the beach; if I can’t do that, I think it would be hiking or something where I can get outdoors.

Do you plan on playing sports or coaching after you graduate?

I would like to try Master's swimming while I am in pharmacy school.

What are your personal and team goals for this season?

I would like to see at least one best time from everyone on the team. Personally, I would like to make the ECAC cut time for the 100 backstroke and best the 500 freestyle record.
