Monks Rank Among National Leaders in Final NCAA Statistical Rankings

STANDISH, Maine - The final 2017-18 NCAA DIII Statistics rankings are now available. Seven Saint Joseph's College teams and 16 individual athletes finished in the top 25 in various categories for their respective sports. In all, the seven SJC programs accounted for 35 top-25 rankings while the 16 individual athletes notched 33 top-25 efforts last year.

Highlights of this list include:

  • The men's soccer team led the nation – and set new NCAA Men's Soccer single-season records - in save percentage and goals against average and also led the country in shutout percentage, and won-lost percentage while ranking in the top-10 in 13 statistical categories overall
  • The SJC women's basketball program finished the season listed in the top-10 in six different categories (scoring margin (5th, 23.6), three-point field goals made (5th, 252), three-point percentage (9th, 37.3%, and points (10th, 2,240)) and ranked in the top-25 in 13 stat categories overall
  • Women's basketball junior Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) capped her third season ranked in the top-20 in seven different categories (three-pointers made (5th, 90), assists (7th, 169), points (13th (563), assists average (15th, 5.6), three-pointers per game (16th, 3.0), three-pointers attempted (17th, 227), and field goal attempts (20th, 442)
  • Men's soccer junior keeper Blake Mullen (Manchester, Conn.) led the country in goals against average (0.05) and save percentage (.981) and set new NCAA Men's Soccer records in both categories; he also ranked third in shutouts (12)
  • Men's soccer junior forward Brett Mattos (Mahopac, N.Y.) finished in the top-15 in five statistical categories: points (2nd, 50), goals (5th, 20), points per game (7th, 2.38), goals per game (9th, 0.95), and game-winning goals (14th, 6)
  • Baseball senior Chris Gerossie (Chester, N.H.) was a magnet for errant pitches this spring, ranking second in the nation in times hit by pitch (20) and fifth in times hit by pitch per game (0.54)

In addition to the NCAA leaderboard, the Monks - collectively - led the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in 47 different team categories (including 15 by the women's basketball team) and 21 individual SJC athletes combined to lead the GNAC in 39 categories during the 2017-18 academic year.
