Saint Joseph's Teams & Athletes Abound in Final 2018-19 NCAA Statistical Rankings

STANDISH, Maine - The final 2018-19 NCAA DIII Statistics rankings are now available. Five Saint Joseph's College teams and 17 individual athletes finished in the top 25 in various categories for their respective sports. In all, the five SJC programs accounted for 46 top-25 rankings while the 17 athletes notched 44 top-25 efforts last year.

Overall, four programs combined to lead NCAA DIII in nine statistical categories last year.

Highlights of this list include:

  • The 2018 field hockey team led the nation in four categories: assists per game (3.57), penalty corners per game (14.10), scoring margin (3.81), and points per game (12.62) and placed in the top 10 in 10 statistical categories overall
  • The 2018 men's soccer program posted nation-leading numbers in shots on goal per game (11.91), shutout percentage (.864), and won-lost-tied percentage (.955) and ranked in the top six in 12 categories overall
  • The 2018-19 women's basketball team led the country in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.40) and ranked in the top 10 in eight statistical categories overall
  • The 2018-19 men's basketball team shot 43.0% from three-point distance en route to leading the nation from downtown and ranked in the top eight in seven categories
  • Women's basketball senior guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) was second nationally in assists (200) and third in three-pointers made (93) and ranked in the top 20 in 12 categories overall; over four seasons she finished in the top 25 in 22 different stat totals
  • Men's basketball senior guard Ian Mileikis (Auburn, Maine) was one of just 13 players in NCAA DIII hoops to notch a triple-double last winter and is tied atop the category with the 12 other individuals; Mileikis became the fourth SJC player to register double digits in points, rebounds and assists with 30, 11, and 10 – respectively – in a 98-87 win over University of Saint Joseph on January 12th
  • Baseball senior shortstop Joey Murphy (Derry, N.H.) set a new SJC single-season record and ranked second in the country with 38 stolen bases

 

In addition to the NCAA leaderboard, the Monks - collectively - led the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in 62 different team categories while 20 individual SJC athletes combined to lead the GNAC in 44 categories during the 2018-19 academic year.
