STANDISH, Maine - In the first installment of our "Looking Back" series we will focus on the Monks' All-Conference honorees from the 2018-19 academic year. Overall, a total of 55 All-GNAC honors were given to SJC athletes, not including the 14 conference awards given out to the top-finishing individuals at the 2019 GNAC Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship, accounting for both the highest total in Saint Joseph's Athletics history and the most garnered by a GNAC institution last year.
Included among the 55 honorees are nine major award winners (also a GNAC-leading total), or "of the Year" award recipients, who are shown in the image above, from right to left: Emma Rutledge (field hockey rookie), Megan Baker (field hockey goalkeeper), Libby Pomerleau (field hockey player), Brett Mattos (m. soccer offensive player), Blake Mullen (m. soccer goalkeeper), Dalton Gaumer (m. soccer defensive player), Joey Murphy (baseball player), Hayley DaGraca (w. soccer offensive player), and Kelsi McNamara (w. basketball offensive player).
Check out the list of All-GNAC recipients, along with each sports' All-Conference announcement, below.
Over the coming weeks we will be looking back at incredible academic year that was 2018-19. Collectively last year, Saint Joseph's won four GNAC Championships with five NCAA Tournament appearances and an overall record of 180-83 (.684) and 86-30 (.741) mark in conference play. The Monks' 354 athletes combined to earn nearly 460 individual accolades and, statistically speaking, five Saint Joseph's College teams and 17 individual athletes finished in the top 25 in various NCAA stat categories for their respective sports. Two teams - men's soccer and women's basketball - were nationally ranked virtually all season and both reached the top 10 in the polls while two other programs - field hockey and baseball - received votes in the national rankings. We'll try to recap it all for the Royal Blue Faithful with similar style recaps coming soon!
