McCarthy Promoted to Assistant Athletic Director Post

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph’s College Athletics Director Brian Curtin has announced that Corey McCarthy has been promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Communication and Game Management. McCarthy has been with the department since 2004 and has served as the College’s Sports Information Director since 2007.

McCarthy will continue to oversee the daily operations of the Monks’ Sports Information Department while administering an extensive internship program and managing an Event Staff comprised of approximately 20 student-workers.

Originally from Inkster, North Dakota, McCarthy came to Saint Joseph’s as an Assistant Baseball Coach in the fall of 2004 and worked in this role for eight seasons, helping the Monks claim seven conference titles with six NCAA Tournament appearances while serving under Head Coach Will Sanborn ’86.

McCarthy, who worked full-time off campus for three years, was tabbed by Curtin as the Interim Sports Information Director at Saint Joseph’s midway through the 2007 fall season. The interim label was removed following the 2007-08 academic year and McCarthy continued to serve in a dual capacity – Sports Information Director and Assistant Baseball Coach – through the 2011-12 year, after which he stepped away from coaching to focus on his administrative role within the department.

In eight years as the Sports Information Director at Saint Joseph’s, McCarthy has guided the efforts for numerous positive changes within the Athletics Department. In 2009 he cultivated a partnership with Presto Sports, a technology platform for online sports information and college athletics websites, to develop www.gomonks.com and has helped orchestrate a pair of website redesigns, with the most recent to be unveiled later this month.

In the fall of 2012, McCarthy developed a partnership with Stretch Internet, a video streaming company based in San Francisco, and with their help created the Monks’ very own online streaming channel, www.gomonks.tv. The collaboration with Stretch Internet provided the department with a much-improved video platform and allowed for all games played on campus to be viewed online.

Under McCarthy’s watch, all Saint Joseph’s contests have featured live stats viewing since the fall of 2010 and the Monks’ social media following on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube have grown exponentially.

“This promotion for Corey is well-deserved,” adds Curtin, the fourth Athletics Director in Saint Joseph’s history who is about to begin his 10th year at the helm. “We are proud of the pride with which Corey handles his duties, the way he has advanced the sports information office and the commitment he has to the student-athletes here at Saint Joseph’s College. We are excited to see him continue to grow in our department and in this profession.”

McCarthy studied Recreation Management at University of North Dakota and SUNY-Cortland and earned a B.S. in Sports Management with a minor in Coaching from the United States Sports Academy. He is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and has twice (2009, 2014) been selected as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Sports Information Director of the Year.
