STANDISH, Maine - The 15th Saint Joseph’s College Athletics Hall of Fame Class was inducted with a ceremony at the Stone Barn on the evening of Saturday, September 9th. Doug MacCallum ’10 (Men’s Soccer), Emily Leverone ’12 (Softball), Alyssa Marchant ’11 (Women’s Lacrosse), and the 1994 Softball Team were enshrined with nearly 120 family members, friends, and alumni in attendance.
The addition of this year’s class increases the Athletics Hall of Fame membership to a total of 86 accomplished individuals and teams.
College President Dr. James Dlugos kicked off the evening with a brief introductory address at the Stone Barn, a venue renovated last fall that has already hosted a wide variety of events, including weddings, receptions, and other gatherings.
The ceremony followed with Athletics Director Brian Curtin welcoming the crowd and Michael E. Sanderl, Ed.D, Vice President & Chief Sponsorship and Mission Integration Officer, providing the Invocation. Dinner and dessert followed.
Doug MacCallum ’10, from Hingham, Massachusetts, is the second men’s soccer player – and first field player - to be inducted into the Saint Joseph’s Athletics Hall of Fame. The two-time All-Conference honoree enters the Hall of Fame as the program’s career leader in goals (38) and points (87) and ranks second in game-winning goals (13) and shots (183).
Alyssa Marchant ’11, who hails from Wakefield, Massachusetts, is deservingly the first women’s lacrosse player to enter the Hall of Fame. The three-time First Team All-Conference selection and 2011 GNAC Offensive Player of the Year held 25 team records upon graduation and remains at or near the top of nearly every statistical career and single-season category at the time of her induction.
Emily Leverone ’12, a Hampton, New Hampshire native, is perhaps the most feared hitter in Saint Joseph’s softball history. The four-time First Team All-GNAC honoree capped her career as the owner of 19 team records and remains as the Monks’ all-time leader in runs (168), hits (258), doubles (66), home runs (37), RBI (211), slugging (.829), OPS (1.340), extra-base hits (113), and total bases (455).
Led by Head Coach and 2008 Saint Joseph’s Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Dick Bailey, the 1994 Softball Team posted a 27-9 (.750) overall record and claimed Maine Athletic Conference (MAC), NAIA New England, and NAIA Northeast Championships en route to securing the program’s first NAIA National Tournament appearance. The 1994 team opened the season with a 20-2 record and suffered consecutive losses on just two occasions.
Current SJC student-athletes – Elyse Caiazzo ’18, Megan Baker ’19, Melodie Bailey ’19, and Michael Ferrie ‘21 - introduced each presenter at the podium.
Founded in 2000, the Saint Joseph’s College Athletics Hall of Fame honors past athletes, faculty, staff and friends who, through their actions, have brought distinction through athletics to themselves and to Saint Joseph’s College. With the combination of the committee and members who have associations with the college and/or athletics department, the Saint Joseph’s College Hall of Fame has continued to make strides toward the future while honoring the past.
