St. Joe's Loses Rubber Match with USM

GORHAM, ME - Saint Joseph's College (30-8-1) lost to USM 13-2 on Monday afternoon at the USM Baseball Stadium in Gorham. Junior Chris Doughty (Windham, ME) had two of the five Monk hits. The game marks the third and final regular season meeting of the teams with USM (24-12) holding a 2-1 advantage.

After three and a half scoreless innings, the Huskies got on the board scoring five runs in the bottom of the fourth.

St. Joe's started to chip away at the lead in the fifth as Doughty singled, stole second and went on to score on an error. USM responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 9-1.

Sophomore Luke Enman (Milan, NH) scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Dustin Spiller (Gorham, ME) in the sixth but the Huskies added another run in the seventh to go up 10-2.

USM plated three more runs in the eighth.

Burleson (4-1) struck out ten in seven innings, earning the win for USM while sophomore Steven Stout (Gloucester, MA) (2-2) took the loss for St. Joe's.

The Monks take on Thomas College on Friday, May 5 at 2:00 p.m. as Saint Joseph's College hosts the North Atlantic Conference Championship.
