Moran Signs On with Pittsfield Colonials

STANDISH, ME – Former Saint Joseph's pitcher Pat Moran '10 (Winterport, ME) has signed a professional baseball contract with the Pittsfield Colonials of the Can-Am League.

Moran made his professional debut shortly after signing with the club, as the 6-4 righthander tossed two perfect innings in relief with a strikeout in a 5-3 loss to the Brockton Rox at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, MA on Wednesday evening.

The three-year SJC standout became a member of the Colonials after throwing a bullpen session for the team on Saturday. Moran, who transferred to Saint Joseph's from DI University of Maine, will primarily be featured in a relief role for Pittsfield.

As a senior for St. Joe's, Moran went 7-2 with a 3.52 ERA and 65 K's – against just 12 walks – in 64 innings on the mound. He led the team in victories, strikeouts, and innings and also paced the Royal Blue with eight home runs as one of the club's top hitters.

He earned a trophy case full of accolades in his three years, including GNAC Player and Pitcher of the Year honors as a junior, and left the program with 12 postseason honors.

Moran ranks as the Monks' all-time career leader in fewest walks per nine innings (1.39), ranks second in WHIP (1.17), third in wins (19) and fifth in strikeouts (183).

Moran is the fifth Monks player to have played in the professional ranks and second to appear on a Can-Am roster. Outfielder Steve Osborne '01 was signed as a free agent by the New York Yankees and slugger Jesse LaCasse '03 played in the German Professional League overseas in 2004 and 2005 and returned to play for the Bonn Capitals this summer. Lefthanded pitcher Charlie Furbush, who played for St. Joe's for two years before transferring to Louisiana State as a junior, was drafted in the 4th round by the Detroit Tigers and is excelling for the club's high-A team in Lakeland, Florida. Shortstop Luke Enman '08 played for the now-defunct Nashua Pride team of the Can-Am League in 2008.

As of June 17th, the Colonials sit in last place in the six-team league with a 5-13 (.278) record. Pittsfield is managed by former Red Sox first baseman Brian Daubach. The team's home field, Wahconah Park, was constructed in 1919 and has been the home of minor league baseball for much of the last 100 years. Many future major leaguers called the park home, including Carlton Fisk, Mark Grace, Rafael Palmeiro and Jamie Moyer.
