STANDISH, ME – D3baseball.com has released the 2011 Preseason All-America teams and Saint Joseph's College senior right fielder Todd Keneborus (Hollis Center, ME/Cheverus) is listed on the Second Team.
Keneborus is one of four players from the New England region and the only player from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference to be honored. He is also the only player from Maine to be listed on the two teams and is the first SJC ballplayer to garner the preseason All-America honor, an accolade that originated in 2008.
Tufts reliever Chris DeGoti, UMass-Boston second baseman Ryan Walsh and Keene State outfielder Bobby Doyon also collected the preseason accolade from D3baseball.com, which is widely considered to be the primary source for NCAA DIII Baseball news across the country.
Keneborus, the 2010 GNAC Player of the Year and Third Team All-America honoree, broke out with eye-popping offensive numbers during his junior year when he hit .464 (77-166) with 52 runs, 15 doubles, 13 triples, four home runs and 65 RBI.
He led the conference in batting average, hits, RBI, triples, total bases (130) and plate appearances (195) in 2010 and also ranked second in the GNAC in slugging (.783) and on-base percentage (.536). Keneborus stacked up nationally as well as he ranked second in NCAA DIII in triples, 15th in RBI, 20th in batting and 20th in total bases.
His breakout season led to a bevy of postseason accolades, as Keneborus collected Third Team All-America honors from D3baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) along with First Team All-GNAC and First Team All-NEIBA awards. He also earned NCAA DIII New England Regional All-Tournament honors and gained national recognition as the DIII NCBWA Hitter of the Week mid-way through the season.
The right-handed slugger's junior campaign also left his name scattered throughout the SJC Baseball record book. Keneborus shattered the Monks' single-season mark for triples last spring and also broke the program record for career three-baggers in 2010. His hit total tied Steve Osborne '01, who notched 77 hits in 2001), for the most by a Monk in a single season and his 2010 RBI tally is tied for second all-time with Jesse LaCasse '03, who drove in 65 in 2002.
Keneborus should continue his assault on the SJC record book, even if his numbers come back to earth a bit as a senior. He enters his final campaign ranking 3rd in slugging (.642), 4th in batting average (.393), 8th in both on-base percentage (.461) and extra base hits (57), 10th in RBI (110) and 16th in hits (148).
The 2011 season begins with a challenging spring trip to Winter Haven, Florida where the Monks will face off against the likes of Curry, Wheaton and Keene State during the week of March 13th – 18th.
