Whittaker and Chase Earn GNAC Honors

STANDISH, ME – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) has released its weekly honor roll selections and two Saint Joseph's baseball players – freshman pitcher Nick Whittaker (Yarmouth, ME) and sophomore infielder Brandon Chase (Naples, ME) – have received mention.

Whittaker scattered seven hits and allowed one earned run with eight strikeouts in nine innings against Maine-Farmington on Thursday.

Through 18 games Whittaker has a miniscule 1.38 ERA with 10 K's, four walks and 12 hits allowed in 13 innings pitched.

Chase hit .500 (3-6) with a 1.000 slugging percentage in a 3-0 week for Saint Joseph's. The sophomore second baseman connected for his first collegiate home run, a solo shot to deep center, in a win over Maine-Farmington on Thursday and was 2-2 with a stolen base against Husson later the same day.

For Chase, the offensive surge broke an 0-10 slump to start the season. An excellent defender, the sophomore Franklin Pierce transfer been perfect in the field with no miscues in 32 chances while manning the second base position.

Saint Joseph's (11-7, 2-0 GNAC) will play at Colby College this afternoon at 4:00 PM.
