Rafferty & Achorn Collect GNAC Accolades

STANDISH, ME – SJC baseball players Chad Rafferty '13 (Keene, NH) and Dan Achorn '12 (Bow, NH) have been listed on the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Weekly Honor Roll.

Rafferty, a right-handed pitcher, tossed a one-hitter with nine strikeouts in a shutout effort against Thomas College last Tuesday. In his last two starts, the sophomore righthander has allowed just two hits while fanning 16 over 12 innings of work.

Through 33 games for the 22-11 Monks, Rafferty leads the pitching staff in strikeouts (37) and ranks second in innings (36.1). As of April 22nd, the sophomore righty is 3-1 with a 2.72 earned run average and opponents are hitting just .221 with him on the hill.

Achorn has played tremendous defense as the Monks' starting shortstop and has provided the team with timely hitting all season. He made one error in 25 chances last week and the miscue, which occurred versus Albertus on Thursday, snapped an 11-game errorless streak.

The third-year infielder is currently hitting .286 (30-105) with five doubles, two home runs, 20 runs scored and 11 RBI. One of the best defensive shortstops in the region, he has a .954 fielding percentage with just six errors in 131 chances this season.

For Achorn, the weekly conference honor is the fourth of his career. He received a pair of GNAC Rookie of the Week honors and an honor roll mention as a freshman. The conference honor is the first of Rafferty's career.

Saint Joseph's will host Daniel Webster College at 4:00 PM this afternoon in a nine-inning non-conference contest.
