2011 Baseball All-Conference Teams Announced

STANDISH, ME – The 2011 GNAC Baseball All-Conference teams have been announced and six SJC players have garnered recognition.

Senior right fielder Todd Keneborus (Hollis Center, ME/Cheverus) - also selected as the 2011 GNAC Player of the Year, senior utility player Chris Campbell (Rochester, NH/Spaulding) and sophomore first baseman Mike Pratt (Dartmouth, MA/Bishop Stang) earned First Team honors while freshman designated hitter Alex Lorenc (Nanuet, NY/Clarkstown South) collected Second Team accolades. Junior shortstop Dan Achorn (Bow, NH/Bow) and sophomore pitcher Chad Rafferty (Keene, NH/Keene) were listed on the Third Team.

Keneborus currently leads the 2011 GNAC Champion Monks in hits (56), runs (35), home runs (4), RBI (38) and slugging percentage (.614) and ranks second on the club in batting average (.424) and OBP (.509).

He recently became just the fifth player in team history to record 200 career hits and ranks third all-time in slugging percentage (.635), fourth in batting average (.401) and fifth all-time in hits (204), RBI (148) and OBP (.478). In addition to the conference top player honors, Keneborus garnered First Team All-New England as well as D3baseball.com and ABCA/Rawlings All-America acclaim last spring.

Keneborus, the 2010 Player of the Year, is just the third SJC baseball player to garner back to back conference player of the year honors as he joins Charlie Furbush (2005, 2006 – NAC) and former teammate Luke Enman '08 (2007 – NAC, 2008 – GNAC) on the short list. The Monks have had a player claim top conference honors for seven consecutive seasons dating back to 2005. He is also the third player in GNAC Baseball history to collect the Player of the Year award in consecutive seasons.

Campbell, one of the best "table-setters" in the region atop the Monks' lineup, gains All-Conference mention for the third consecutive season and the second First Team honor of his career. He currently leads the Royal Blue in batting average (.466, 55-118) and OBP (.515) and secured All-Tournament honors after hitting a scorching .786 (11-14) in three St. Joe's playoff victories.

Campbell currently ranks second in team history in career batting average (.424, 185-436) and third in OBP (.480).

Pratt is enjoying a breakout season with a .403 (52-129) batting average and 34 RBI in 40 games as a sophomore. He leads the Monks with 21 doubles, a new-season record, and ranks second on the team in RBI and slugging percentage (.612). He is also third in hits and OBP (.450).

Lorenc, a two-time GNAC Rookie of the Week recipient, is hitting .285 (35-123) with 11 doubles, two home runs, 27 RBI and a .423 slugging percentage through 40 games. The first-year slugger has a knack for coming up with big hits and has been in the middle of a number of Monks' rallies this season.

Rafferty has emerged as one of the top pitchers in the conference as a sophomore. In seven starts and a team-high 45.1 innings, the righty has recorded a 4-1 record with 49 K's against just 15 walks. Opponents are hitting just .215 off Rafferty, who was selected as the GNAC Tournament Most Valuable Player after tossing a four-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts in a semifinal win over Johnson & Wales.

Achorn has flown under the radar as one of the Monks' most important players this season. He earns the first All-Conference honor of his career after hitting .285 (37-130) with 26 runs, six doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI in 38 games. Unquestionably the best defensive shortstop in the conference, Achorn has made just eight errors in 169 chances for a stellar .953 fielding percentage while manning the game's most difficult position.

Saint Joseph's (29-11, 12-2 GNAC) defeated Suffolk University in the 2011 GNAC Championship game at Larry Mahaney Diamond on Sunday to claim the program's sixth conference crown in the last seven seasons. With the win, the Monks will participate in the NCAA DIII Tournament, which begins on May 18th, for the fifth time in the last six years.
