Campbell & Rafferty Claim GNAC Weekly Honors

STANDISH, ME – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors have been released and a pair of Saint Joseph's College players have been honored.

Senior infielder Chris Campbell (Rochester, NH/Spaulding) has earned Player of the Week honors and sophomore right-handed pitcher Chad Rafferty (Keene, NH/Keene) has been named as the Pitcher of the Week.

Campbell hit a scorching .636 (14-22) with seven runs, three RBI and his first collegiate home run in five wins for the Monks last week. He collected GNAC All-Tournament honors after hitting an unreal .786 (11-14) as the Monks' lead-off hitting in three playoff games, including a 5-5 effort with a home run and two runs scored in a win over Lasell and a 4-5 performance with a run and two RBI in the GNAC Championship win over Suffolk.

Rafferty tossed a complete-game shutout with a career-high 12 strikeouts in a 4-0 GNAC Semifinal win over Johnson & Wales on Saturday. He collected GNAC Tournament Most Valuable Player honors for his efforts as well.

Through 40 games, Campbell is hitting a team-high .466 (55-118) with 27 runs, five doubles, a home run, 14 RBI and eight stolen bases. The three-time All-Conference honoree's batting average ranks eighth in all of NCAA DIII Baseball as of May 4th.

Rafferty, also a 2011 Third Team All-GNAC choice, is 4-1 with a 2.18 ERA and leads the Monks' staff in both innings pitched (45.1) and strikeouts (49) this spring.

Saint Joseph's (29-11, 12-2 GNAC) will play at Bowdoin College in a single nine-inning game this Sunday at 12:00 PM and at Bates College next Wednesday in a doubleheader at 12:00 PM before advancing to the NCAA DIII Regional, which begins on May 18th.
