Sanborn Sits Alone Atop SJC Athletics All-Time Coaching Victories List

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's baseball Head Coach Will Sanborn '86 became the winningest coach in SJC Athletics history during his team's spring trip in mid-March.

With a 9-4 victory over Framingham State University on March 12th, Coach Sanborn notched the 505th win of his career, surpassing legendary men's basketball Head Coach Rick Simonds, a 2010 SJC Athletics Hall of Fame inductee who recorded a 504-187 (.729) record in 24 total seasons (23 basketball, one softball).

Coach Sanborn, now in his 20th season as the Monks' skipper, has guided the Royal Blue to an 11-2 record so far this spring and is currently 514-290-5 (.639) in his career. He has guided Saint Joseph's to 10 conference championships, six NCAA DIII Tournament berths, five NAIA New England crowns, and one NAIA Super Regional appearance.

Over the last 19 years Coach Sanborn has led the Monks to eight 30-win seasons, including six in the last seven years. Since 2005, just three New England programs have posted more wins (222) and only four have notched a better winning percentage (.709). No team has made more New England Regional appearances (5) since 2006 and just two programs (Eastern Connecticut and Wheaton) have notched more 30-win seasons over the past seven years.

Under Sanborn's watch, 11 different Saint Joseph's players have garnered All-America honors, eight have earned Conference Player of the Year accolades, and 47 have claimed All-Conference awards. He has earned four Coach of the Year honors during his esteemed career.

St. Joe's, currently ranked 2nd in the NEIBA New England Regional Poll and 24th in the ABCA/Collegiate Baseball National Poll, will host UMass.-Boston on Friday in the team's 2012 home-opener. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
