Follow Joe Coyne While He Plays Summer Ball in Hawaii

STANDISH, ME - SJC baseball freshman catcher Joe Coyne (Duxbury, Mass.) will be playing in the prestigious Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League (HCBL) this summer and has agreed to share his experiences via online blog.

Coyne will post blog entries every Thursday and his first entry was added this afternoon. Those interested can read his blog here: http://monksathletics.wordpress.com/

Coyne, a First Team All-GNAC selection as a freshman, hit .346 (56-162) with 12 doubles, 24 runs scored, and 24 runs batted in this spring. No first-year player has ever recorded more at bats or hits in their first collegiate season at Saint Joseph's.

He played a key role for a 2012 team that registered a 39-7 (.848) overall record and a 14-2 (.875) Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) mark en route to capturing the program's seventh conference title over the last eight years. With the GNAC title, the Monks advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in the last seven seasons and earned the #2 seed in the New England Regional tourney.

Nationally ranked all season long, the Monks capped the year as the #14 team in the country in a pair of polls, the ABCA/Collegiate Baseball rankings and D3Baseball.com/NCBWA poll.
