Sanborn to be Inducted into Maine Baseball Hall of Fame

STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's College Baseball Head Coach Will Sanborn '86 is among nine inductees of the 2013 Maine Baseball Hall of Fame class, which will be enshrined at the 43rd annual ceremony and banquet at the Holiday Inn By the Bay in Portland, Maine on Sunday, July 28th at 12:00 PM.

Sanborn, who recently completed his 21st season at the helm for Saint Joseph's, joins Danny Alvino, Kevin Bernier, Greg Coppeta, Dennis Martel, Ed Pickett, Carroll Plourde, Jeff Trundy and Tom Watson as a member of the 2013 Maine Baseball Hall of Fame class.

Coach Sanborn played at Saint Joseph's for longtime Head Coach Jim Graffam for three seasons and served as an assistant under Phil Desjardins for two years (1991-92) before assuming the head coaching duties in 1993. During his 21 years as the Monks' skipper, Sanborn has accumulated a 573-309-5 (.650) record with 17 championships, including 12 conference crowns and five NAIA New England titles, and 18 winning seasons. Saint Joseph's has reached the 25-victory plateau in 14 of Sanborn's 21 years and posted 30 or more wins on 10 occasions.

In 26 years as part of the Saint Joseph's Baseball program - as a player, assistant and head coach - Sanborn has played a role in 684 total victories.

Well-established as one of the best NCAA DIII programs in New England, Saint Joseph's has been particularly strong over the last nine years, a spell during which the Monks have registered eight conference titles, eight NCAA Tournament appearances and eight 30-win seasons under the guidance of Sanborn, who continues to add to his impressive win total, which ranks as the most in the college's 42-year history of athletics.

Sanborn, a four-time Coach of the Year honoree, became the winningest Saint Joseph's College head coach with a 5-0 win over UMass.-Boston at Larry Mahaney Diamond on March 30th, 2012. The shutout triumph lifted Sanborn's career victory total to 515 and pushed him past Head Coach Rick Simonds, who amassed 514 total wins in 23 years as the men's basketball coach and single seasons as the baseball and softball skipper at Saint Joseph's.

In addition to the banquet and induction ceremony, all of the 2013 inductees will be recognized with an on-field ceremony prior to the Portland Sea Dogs' game versus the Harrisburg Senators on Friday, July 26th.

For reservations to the banquet and induction ceremony, please contact Don Douglas at (207) 846-3460 or by email at don@douglastitle.com. The cost to attend is $30 for adults and $12 for children under the age of 12.
