Whittaker & Lorenc Claim Conference Accolades

STANDISH, ME – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors have been released and a pair of Saint Joseph's College baseball players have collected accolades.

Senior outfielder Alex Lorenc (Nanuet, N.Y.) and senior pitcher Nick Whittaker (Yarmouth, Maine) have garnered GNAC Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively, for their play in five contests last week.

Lorenc enjoyed a tremendous week for the Monks, hitting .474 with six runs, two doubles, a home run and eight RBI over the five games. The senior right fielder was 6-8 with five runs, two doubles, a grand slam home run and eight RBI in a sweep over GNAC-rival Rivier University on Saturday.

Whittaker tied a career-high with 10 strikeouts in a 2-0 victory over Norwich University on Saturday. The senior hurler carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning versus the Cadets and capped the complete-game effort having allowed two singles.

Lorenc is currently hitting .288 (19-66) with 16 runs, four doubles, a triple, a home run, 17 RBI and five stolen bases through 19 games for the Monks. He leads the team in steals and ranks second on the club in RBI. The weekly conference honor is the second of his career.

Whittaker is 2-1 with a 4.56 ERA and 29 strikeouts and 13 walks in 23.2 innings so far this spring. He leads the staff in K's and currently sports the second-lowest opponent's batting average (.226) on the team. The conference accolade is the third of his collegiate career.

Saint Joseph's (13-6, 4-0 GNAC) will host Bowdoin College in a non-conference game at 4:30 PM on Wednesday.
