Baseball Ranked Ninth in New England

STANDISH, ME – The second NCAA DIII Baseball Regional Rankings have been announced and Saint Joseph's College (24-13, 11-3 GNAC) is ninth in the New England poll, which was released on Thursday.

University of Southern Maine is ranked as the top New England program while Amherst College and Eastern Connecticut State are second and third, respectively. Salem State, Endicott College, Tufts University, Wheaton College and Bates College all precede Saint Joseph's in the May 1st regional rankings.

Saint Joseph's rolled through the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament, which was held at Larry Mahaney Diamond last weekend. The second-seeded Monks opened play with a 9-2 triumph over #4 Lasell College, defeated #1 Suffolk University, 9-2, in the semifinals and blanked the Rams, 2-0, in the championship to claim the GNAC title for the fifth-consecutive season.

With the GNAC Championship crown in tow, Saint Joseph's earns an automatic berth into the NCAA DIII Baseball Tournament, which begins with regional play on Wednesday, May 14th. The Monks will be making the program's fifth–straight NCAA tourney appearance and eighth in the last nine years overall.

Selections for the 2014 NCAA DIII Baseball Tournament will be announced on Monday, May 12th.
