Coyne & Albert Selected as GNAC Player, Rookie of the Week

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors have been announced and a pair of Saint Joseph's College baseball players have earned awards.

Senior catcher Joe Coyne (Duxbury, Mass.) has collected GNAC Player of the Week honors and freshman pitcher Steven Albert (Worcester, Mass.) is the GNAC Rookie of the Week.

Coyne hit an even .500 (14-28) with three runs, four doubles, four RBI and three stolen bases in a 6-2 week for Saint Joseph's College. The senior catcher posted five multiple-hit performances with at least one hit in every game during the busy week and was 2-3 with a double and a pair of RBI in a triumph over Rivier on Friday. The GNAC Player of the Week honor is the second of his career.

Albert tossed 7.1 scoreless innings while allowing seven hits and a walk with seven K's last week. The freshman right-hander threw six scoreless frames with six strikeouts while yielding five hits and a walk in six innings to pick up the win versus Rivier on Friday.

Coyne is currently batting .413 (33-80) with 16 runs, eight doubles, a homer and 17 RBI and ranks as the conference leader in hits (33), doubles, RBI, and total bases (44).

Albert has made six appearances, with one start, and tossed 14.2 innings so far this spring. The rookie righthander is 2-0 with 13 strikeouts and five walks and looks to play a prominent role in the Monks' pitching plans this season.

Saint Joseph's (13-10, 6-0 GNAC) will host Bowdoin College in a non-conference contest slated to begin at 6:30 PM on Thursday.
