Saint Joseph's Rolls Past Coe College, 14-7

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Saint Joseph's College (3-1) toppled Coe College (2-2), 14-7, in RussMatt Central Florida Invitational action at the Lake Myrtle Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

With the game tied 4-4 through four innings, the Monks sent four runs home on three hits in the bottom of the fifth and plated seven runs off seven hits in the seventh to secure a 14-3 advantage. In the top of the ninth, the Kohawks produced four runs off two hits and an SJC miscue to account for the 14-7 final tally.

ON THE MOUNT – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

Junior starter Chris Gerossie (Chester, N.H.) earned the victory after allowing three runs off five hits and a walk with five punch-outs over five innings and freshman Matt Demma (Yarmouth, Maine) struck out one batter and walked one in an otherwise clean inning of relief. Junior Josh Partridge (Deerfield, N.H.) fanned four in two perfect frames and senior Ben Coleman (Williamstown, Mass.) gave up four runs (two earned) off two hits and three walks in the ninth.

Coe starter David Keaton (Lake Forest, Ill.) yielded three runs off four hits and four walks with two K's in 2.1 innings of work and reliever Lucas Robbins (Manteno, Ill.) suffered the loss after yielding four runs off four hits with two strikeouts in 2.2 frames of relief. Relievers James Christ (Midlothian, Ill.) and Alex Milne (Oswego, Ill.) combined to allow seven runs off eight hits and a walk with a pair of punch-outs over three innings of work.

OFF THE BAT – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Senior shortstop Max McCoomb (South Berwick, Maine) was 2-4 with a run, a double, a triple, and five RBI
  • Sophomore Anthony DiPrizio (Rochester, N.H.) went 2-4 with a run and three RBI
  • Sophomore center fielder Jared Gagne (Dover, N.H.) was 2-2 with two runs and an RBI
  • Junior catcher Jacob White (Salem, N.H.) added two hits and an RBI in three trips to the plate
  • Sophomore first baseman Noah McDaniel (Eliot, Maine) was 2-3 with a run and an RBI
  • Senior third baseman Taylor Black (Cardiff by the Sea, Calif.) tripled and went 2-5 with a run and an RBI
  • Senior right fielder Dennis Meehan (Gardiner, Maine) was hit by pitch three times and scored a pair of runs

OFF THE BAT – COE:

  • Freshman third baseman Jordan Kaplan (Northbrook, Ill.) went 2-5 with a double and four RBI
  • Senior pinch hitter Ben Jacobson (Ottosen, Iowa) tripled in a run and scored

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 2-1 all-time versus Coe College. These two teams split a doubleheader in their last meeting, which took place in Florida on March 9th, 2004.

With the day off tomorrow, Saint Joseph's returns to action Thursday with a pair of games versus Rhode Island College in Winter Haven at Chain of Lakes Field #1. First pitch is slated for 12:30 PM.
