BEVERLY, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (19-7) scored three runs in the top of the ninth to defeat #30 Endicott College (17-7), 6-3, in a non-conference baseball contest on Tuesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
With two on and two out in the top of the ninth, senior center fielder Chris Gerossie (Chester, N.H.) broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run triple to deep center and later scored on a wild pitch to make it a 6-3 game.
The Gulls got on the board in the bottom of the third, when Christian Jordan (Holden, Mass.) walked, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a Brad Rebello (Bellingham, Mass.) single up the middle.
The Monks claimed the lead on one swing in the top of the fourth, as junior Ben Gravel (Rochester, N.H.) launched his first home run of the season, a two-run jack to left field, to lift his team to a 2-1 edge.
Endicott answered in kind in the bottom of the fourth when freshman Jacob Thibault (Methuen, Mass.) lifted a solo shot over the left-center wall, tying the game at 2-2.
The 2-2 stalemate remained until the top of the seventh, when junior Noah McDaniel (Eliot, Maine) singled to right field and eventually crossed the plate on a Gerossie double to left-center. The Gulls went on to tie the game without a hit in the bottom of the seventh, as junior Dan Cacciola (Saugus, Mass.) walked, stole second, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt, and scored when Rebello reached on a fielder's choice.
ON THE MOUND:
- Freshman starter Zach Begin (Georgetown, Mass.) allowed two runs off two hits and three walks with a pair of punch outs in six innings
- Senior Travis Godbout (Portland, Maine) earned the win after allowing a run off a walk in two innings of hitless relief
- Senior reliever Josh Partridge (Deerfield, N.H.) tossed a perfect ninth inning to pick up his third save of the season
- Endicott sophomore starter Joseph Oriola (Pembroke, Mass.) yielded two runs (one earned) off two hits with five K's over four innings
- Senior Victor Molle (Peabody, Mass.) took the loss and falls to 2-1 after giving up two runs off one hit and a walk in 1.1 innings
OFF THE BAT:
- Gerossie was 3-4 with a run, a double, a triple, and three RBI
- McDaniel went 2-3 with two runs scored
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 16-7 in the history of the series with Endicott College, a team that defeated the Monks, 5-4, last Tuesday.
