STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) baseball postseason honors have been announced and eight Saint Joseph's College players have been honored.
Senior Josh Partridge (Deerfield, N.H.) headlines the Monks' group of honorees after being selected as the 2018 GNAC Pitcher of the Year and earning First Team All-Conference honors for the second-consecutive season.
Juniors Joey Murphy (Derry, N.H.) and Jared Gagne (Dover, N.H.) join Partridge on the First Team while senior Jacob White (Salem, N.H.), sophomore Will Martin (Arlington, Mass.) have claimed Second Team Accolades and junior Noah McDaniel (Eliot, Maine), senior Chris Gerossie (Chester, N.H.), and junior Anthony DiPrizio (Rochester, N.H.) are listed on the Third Team.
White and Gerossie have also earned GNAC All-Defensive Team accolades.
Partridge is named as the GNAC Pitcher of the Year after posting a 2.45 ERA with a 5-2 record and six saves while fanning 56 and holding opponents to a .215 batting average over 44 innings and 23 appearances (new SJC single-season record). He led the conference in appearances, saves (6), strikeouts per nine innings (11.45), and ERA and ranked third in strikeouts and fourth in victories.
Over four seasons, the three-time All-GNAC honoree posted a 2.33 ERA with a 16-5 record and 13 saves while striking out 159 hitters in 158.2 innings and 67 total appearances. He graduates ranked second in program history in career ERA, third in appearances and opponents' batting average (.223), fourth in saves, WHIP (1.14) and hits per nine innings (7.43).
Murphy claims All-Conference honors for the first time after hitting .336 (49-146) with 30 runs, five doubles, a home run, 23 RBI, and 30 stolen bases in 33 chances. The junior shortstop led the GNAC in steals, ranked third in at-bats, fourth in hits, and fifth in runs. His 2018 stolen base total is the second-highest in team history (Arlo Pike '86 swiped 34 bases in 1986) and heads into his senior season with a career .334 (122-365) batting average, 88 runs, 16 doubles, 56 RBI, and 37 steals in 108 games. He led the team with 16 multiple-hit games this spring.
Gagne, also a first-time All-GNAC honoree, collects First Team acclaim after hitting .402 (49-122) with 30 runs, seven doubles, four triples, 25 RBI, and 25 stolen bases during a breakout junior campaign. The junior outfielder led the GNAC in batting average, ranked second in stolen bases, third in triples, OBP (.475) and sac hits (7), fourth in hits and total bases (67), and fifth in runs. Gagne posted 14 multiple-hit games with eight multi-RBI performances and recorded a 10-game hitting streak during the season.
White earns Second Team All-Conference for the second-consecutive season after hitting .371 (43-116) with 13 runs, 13 doubles, two home runs, 18 RBI, and five stolen bases during his senior season. The senior catcher led the team in doubles, ranked second in slugging (.552), and was third in hits and OBP (.444) this spring. He completed his college career hitting .324 (77-238) with 36 runs, 19 doubles, two home runs, and 36 RBI in 109 games (71 starts).
Martin collects Second Team All-GNAC accolades after hitting .382 (26-68) with 16 runs, seven doubles, and 10 RBI during a breakout sophomore campaign. The sophomore third baseman led the Monks in walks (22) and OBP (.533) and was second on the squad in batting average. Martin also posted a seven-game hitting streak during the season.
McDaniel takes All-GNAC honors for the second year in a row after hitting .268 (33-123) with 25 runs, three doubles, two homers, 20 RBI, and five stolen bases this spring. An excellent defensive first baseman, McDaniel made just one error in 302 chances for a .997 fielding percentage and goes into his senior season hitting .324 (90-278) with 62 runs, 10 doubles, three homers, 54 RBI, and 11 steals in 103 career games.
Gerossie is listed on the Third Team after hitting .282 (29-103) with 32 runs, nine doubles, four triples, four home runs, 24 RBI, and five stolen bases during his senior season. The senior outfielder led the team in runs, triples, homers, hit by pitch (20 – new SJC single-season record), and slugging percentage (.563) and was third on the team in doubles and RBI. In two seasons as a hitter, Gerossie hit .323 (50-155) with 58 runs, 16 doubles, five triples, six homers, 46 RBI, and eight steals and was hit by pitch 35 times, the third-highest total in team history.
DiPrizio earns Third Team accolades after hitting .308 (37-120) with 29 runs, 10 doubles, a home run, and 28 RBI while starting 24 games in the outfield and 11 behind the plate during his junior season. He led the team in RBI, tied for second in doubles, and finished the year third on the club in runs scored. DiPrizio posted 12 multiple-hit efforts and paced the team with nine multiple-RBI performances this spring and goes into his senior season hitting .311 (65-209) with 45 runs, 16 doubles, and 46 RBI in 77 career games.
Under the watch of 26th-year Head Coach Will Sanborn '86, Saint Joseph's went 29-13 overall with a 10-4 mark en route to earning the #2 seed in the GNAC Tournament this spring. The Monks, selected as a predetermined host for the 2018 tourney, opened postseason play with a 9-5 loss to #3 Johnson & Wales University on May 3rd and fought their way into the GNAC Championship with elimination-game triumphs over Lasell College and Johnson & Wales before falling to top-seeded Suffolk University, 6-5, in the title game on May 6th.
