Saint Joseph’s Blanks Bowdoin, 3-0

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Three pitchers combined to toss a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts to help Saint Joseph's College (28-8) blank Bowdoin College (5-19-1), 3-0, in non-conference baseball action on Monday afternoon. The game was called after eight innings due to darkness.

With the win, the Monks extend their winning streak to eight games, a string that includes three shutouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Senior shortstop Joey Murphy (Derry, N.H.) lifted the Monks to a 2-0 lead with a two-run double with two out in the top of the second and senior first baseman Noah McDaniel (Eliot, Maine) sent senior catcher Greg Emanuelson (Hudson, N.H.) home with a two-out two-bagger in the top of the seventh to account for the 3-0 final.

ON THE MOUND:

Senior starter Grayson Jennings (Mililani, Hawaii) did not allow a hit until senior catcher Colby Joncas (Londonderry, N.H.) singled with two down in the bottom of the fifth and improved to 3-0 on the season after fanning eight batters while allowing one knock and one free pass over five strong frames.

Junior Weston Bergeron (Lyman, Maine) allowed a hit and struck out one in an inning of relief and freshman southpaw George Welch (Derry, N.H.) picked up his first career save after giving up one hit with three strikeouts over the final two frames.

Bowdoin junior starter Connor Lee (Bedford, N.H.) falls to 1-3 after yielding two runs on nine hits and a walk with eight K's in six innings and junior Colby Lewis (Franklin, Mass.) gave up a run on three hits with a pair of punch-outs in two innings of work.

OFF THE BAT:

  • Emanuelson was 3-4 with a run and a double
  • Junior left fielder Ben Gravel (Rochester, N.H.) went 3-4 with a run scored
  • Murphy added two hits, a double, and two RBI with a walk in five plate appearances
  • McDaniel doubled and was 2-4 with an RBI
  • Senior designated hitter Anthony DiPrizio (Rochester, N.H.) went 2-4 with a run scored

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory, Saint Joseph's is now 28-24-3 in the history of the series with Bowdoin College.

Saint Joseph's is off until Saturday when the Monks host conference-rival Suffolk University in doubleheader slated to start at 12:00 PM.
