Gagne Earns Google Cloud Academic All-District® Honors for Second-Consecutive Season

STANDISH, Maine - The 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Baseball Teams have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom and Saint Joseph's College senior outfielder Jared Gagne (Dover, N.H.) has been honored for the second-consecutive season.

Gagne has been named to the 11-member District 1 Team, which features student-athletes from Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

Gagne is now eligible for even higher honors, as First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (when selected) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.

The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed in link provided below and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.

The Division II and III Google Cloud Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA Google Cloud Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.

Google Cloud Academic All-America® teams will be announced as following: June 3 (NAIA), June 4 (NCAA Division III), June 5 (NCAA Division II) and June 6 (NCAA Division I).

Gagne, a Finance & Marketing Major at Saint Joseph's, heads into the NCAA Tournament hitting .413 (59-143) with 46 runs, 10 doubles, six triples, one home run, 30 RBI, and 35 stolen bases. He leads the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in triples and ranks second in runs, hits and stolen bases and third in hitting and total bases (84) and fifth in slugging percentage (.587).

Gagne, who claimed a trio of All-Region awards last spring, earned First Team All-GNAC honors for the second year in a row and is in line to collect his third GNAC All-Academic award later this month.

Gagne is the only GNAC player or individual hailing from a Maine college or university to collect 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Baseball Team honors.

The senior captain is the second player in SJC baseball history to earn a pair of Google Cloud Academic All-District® accolades - Taylor Reuillard '16 was the first - and is one of seven St. Joe's players to be honored by the national organization. He is joined on the exclusive list by Taylor Black '17, Jameson Collins '17, Reuillard, Nic Lops '16, Alex Valenti '15 and Chris Campbell '11.

Gagne is the fourth SJC athlete to garner Google Cloud Academic All-District® honors during the 2018-19 academic year. Haley DaGraca '19 (Soccer), Kelsi McNamara '19 (Basketball), and Darian Berry '19 (Basketball) also claimed the high academic accolade.

Saint Joseph's defeated Johnson & Wales, 8-7 in 11 innings, in the GNAC Championship on May 5th to earn the conference's automatic qualifier into the 2019 NCAA DIII Baseball Tournament and will face Wheaton College in the first round of the national tourney at UMass.-Boston on Friday at 3:30 PM.
