Monks Outlast Gulls in Double Overtime, 2-1

BEVERLY, MA - Melanie Allen '13 (Jackson, NH) scored in the 97th minute of play to lift Saint Joseph's (12-3, 5-0 NAC) over Endicott (10-7, 6-1 TCCC) in non-conference field hockey action on Wednesday evening.

Allen, who now has two goals on the year with both being game-winners, scored the clincher after collecting the rebound of a Julia Ostrowski '10 (Albany, NY) shot. Allen scored the winner last week in a 1-0 victory over Salem State.

Meaghan Johnson '12 (Portland, ME/Cheverus) made 10 stops in goal for Saint Joseph's and ace defender Kim Glynn '10 (Danvers, MA) registered a pair of defensive saves in the winning effort. Taylor Teixeira '13 (Exeter, NH) made six stops between the pipes for the Gulls.

Endicott outshot St. Joe's, 19-14, while the Monks held a 13-8 advantage in penalty corners in the victory.

Kayla Nowell '11 (Bridgton, ME) opened the game scoring with her 14th goal of the year in the 12th minute of play. Ostrowski was credited with an assist on the tally.

The one-goal edge held until the 66th minute when Gulls forward Anna Giannoni '12 (Granby, CT) knotted the contest with a goal off a rebound. The Monks recorded a penalty corner attempt in the final seconds of regulation but were unable to convert, as the game headed into extra frames.

The non-league match remained tied after the first 15-minute period of seven-on-seven play, with Endicott holding a 3-2 edge in shots during the initial extra segment.

St. Joe's went on to outshoot the hosts 6-2 in the second OT period before Allen scored the winner on the Monks seventh shot of the frame.

Saint Joseph's will play a pair of North Atlantic Conference contests on the road this weekend to close out the team's regular season schedule. The Monks will take on Simmons (4-12, 1-4 NAC) on Saturday at 1:00 PM and Lasell (7-8, 3-2) on Sunday at 3:00 PM.

Endicott will play host to TCCC opponent Regis College on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
