NAC Field Hockey All-Conference Team Announced

Ostrowski Named 2009 Player of the Year

STANDISH, ME - The North Atlantic Conference has announced the 2009 Field Hockey All Conference awards and five individuals from Saint Joseph's College have been recognized, including Player of the Year Julia Ostrowski '10 (Albany, NY) and Coach of the Year Rupert Lewis.

Ostrowski, Jillian Kimball '10 (Albany Township, ME) and Kayla Nowell '11 (Bridgton, ME) all garnered First Team recognition and Kimberly Glynn '10 (Danvers, MA) collected Second Team honors.

Ostrowski, a Second Team All-NAC selection last year, leads the league in goals (17) and points (41) and is tied for the lead in game-winning goals (4). Having played a hand in over half of the Monks' 25 NAC goals, she tallied a league-high 11 goals, and added four assists, in conference play. The senior forward also ranks as the program's career leader in goals (45), assists (39), points (129) and game-winning goals (9) and will assuredly go down as one of the most dynamic offensive players in team history.

Kimball has tallied two goals, four assists and eight points as a key member of the Monks' backline this season. She received Honorable Mention honors as a junior.

For Nowell, the First Team nod is the second of her career. The junior forward leads the Monks with 9 assists and ranks second on the team, and conference, in goals (15) and points (39).

Glynn, the Monks' top defensive player, collects her first All-Conference honor and heads into postseason play as the NAC leader with 9 defensive saves. She also led the conference with 14 defensive stops last fall and ranks as the Monks' all time leader with 26 defensive saves.

Head Coach Rupert Lewis, in his fifth season as the SJC skipper, collects his first Coach of the Year honor after his team went unbeaten (7-0) in conference play and earned the top seed for the NAC playoffs. The Monks, 14-3 overall, received regional recognition as the top-ranked team in the New England East Region in last week's NCAA DIII Regional Poll. Lewis, who has a 50-39 (.562) career record - including a 43-16 (.729) tilt over the past three seasons, has transformed the St. Joe's field hockey team into a perennial conference contender.

Top-seeded St. Joe's will host #4 Husson University (7-7, 4-3 NAC) in a NAC Semifinal on Wednesday at 2:00 PM.
