Three St. Joe's Field Hockey Players named All-Region

STANDISH, ME - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association has announced the 2009 NCAA DIII All-Region teams and three Saint Joseph's players have been named All-NFHCA East Region.

Julia Ostrowski '10 (Albany, NY/Guilderland Central) has received First Team honors, while Jillian Kimball '10 (Albany Township, ME/Telstar) and Kayla Nowell '11 (Bridgton, ME/Lake Region) received Second Team accolades.

Ostrowski, a Second Team All-NFHCA honoree as a sophomore, is the first SJC field hockey player to receive NFHCA First Team honors. The senior capped her career with perhaps her finest season, with 18 goals, 7 assists, 43 points and 4 game-clinching goals. Ostrowski led the North Atlantic Conference in goals and points and was named as the NAC Player of the Year following the season's completion. She ranks as the Monks' all-time leader in goals (46), assists (39) and points (131).

For Kimball, the regional honor is her first. One of the best all-around defenders in team history, Kimball capped her prestigious career with a First Team All-NAC nomination after tallying 2 goals, 4 assists and 8 total points.

Nowell garners All-NFHCA for the second straight season after netting 15 goals, 9 assists and 39 total points. Following the 2009 season, the junior forward netted All-NAC First Team honors for the second consecutive season.

St. Joe's capped the 2009 campaign with a 14-4 overall record and went undefeated, 7-0, in conference play en route to gaining the top seed in the NAC Playoffs. The Monks' season came to a bitter end in the semifinal round when Husson topped the Royal Blue, 2-1, after winning a stroke-off round.
