2010 Field Hockey Captains Announced

STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's College Field Hockey Head Coach Rupert Lewis has announced his team captains for the 2010 season.

Alyssa Dunn '11 (Standish, ME), Sarah Bartell '12 (Exeter, NH) and Meaghan Johnson '12 (Portland, ME/Cheverus) will share the player leadership role next fall when the Monks look to repeat as NAC regular season champions and pursue the program's first NAC Tournament crown.

Dunn, one of the most physical players in the conference, notched 8 assists and started all 18 games for the Royal Blue in 2009. She was named Second Team All-NAC as a sophomore and received All-Tournament honors last fall.

Bartell enjoyed a solid second season in 2009, with 3 goals and 5 assists for 11 total points. She recorded game-winning goals against FDU-Florham and Lasell College and is expected to increase her contribution as one of the team's leaders next season.

Johnson notched a tremendous season between the pipes for the Monks in 2009. She led the conference in goals-against average (1.29) and shutouts (4) and her GAA mark ranks as a new program single-season record. Her 26 career victories is the highest total in SJC career history and her 1.36 GAA through two seasons ranks second all-time at St. Joe's.

Saint Joseph's was 14-4 overall and a perfect 7-0 in North Atlantic Conference play in 2009. The Monks' season came to an abrupt ending in the semifinal round when Husson defeated the Royal Blue in a stroke-off, 2-1, to advance to the title match.
