Monks Wallop Rivier College, 8-0

STANDISH, ME – Senior forward Sarah Bartell (Exeter, N.H.) netted three goals and an assist and TJ Cowin '14 (Newry, Maine) scored twice to help Saint Joseph's (5-2, 3-0 NAC) handle Rivier College (2-7, 0-4 NAC), 8-0, in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) field hockey match at Lakeside Field on Sunday.

For Bartell, the hat trick effort is the first of her college career and she is the sixth player in team history to net three goals in a game. The feat has now been accomplished by an SJC player 15 times including three occasions this fall through seven tilts.

With the scoring output Bartell became the fifth Monks player to reach the 50-point plateau as the four-year standout now has 52 points – 18 goals, 16 assists – through 65 career contests. She currently ranks fourth in team history in game-winning goals (6), sixth in assists and eighth in goals.

Also scoring for the Monks were Renee Leach '12 (Springvale, Maine), Rachelle Messuri '14 (Atkinson, N.H.) and Meghan Carr '14 (Topsham, Maine), who netted her first collegiate marker in the 65th minute of the conference contest.

Theresa Hendrix '14 (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) and Brittany Locke '13 (Waterville, Maine) notched assists for Saint Joseph's, which broke the program's single-game record for shots (48) and nearly eclipsed the team's penalty corner mark with 22 in the one-sided match.

SJC keeper Meaghan Johnson '12 (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) made six saves to earn her second shutout of the season and 13th of her career while Raiders netminder Makenzie Flagg '15 (Shirley, Mass.) tallied 18 stops in a losing effort.

With the win, St. Joe's improves to 3-0 in the history of the series with Rivier College.

Saint Joseph's will play at Endicott College on Thursday in a 7:00 PM start while Rivier is set to host Regis College Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
