Johnson Garners First Team All-Region Honors

STANDISH, ME - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region teams have been released and Saint Joseph's senior netminder Meaghan Johnson (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) has garnered New England East First Team honors.

Johnson, the 2011 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Defensive Player of the Year and two-time First Team All-NAC choice, started all 19 games for the Monks and posted a 0.95 goals against average with an .882 save percentage during her senior season. She went 13-6 with six shutouts and allowed 19 goals with 142 saves in 1393 minutes between the pipes this fall.

As of November 1st, the four-year starter ranks second in the nation in save percentage and ninth in goals against average. She is just the second player in program history, joining former teammate Julia Ostrowski '10, to earn First Team NFHCA accolades.

During her time at St. Joe's Johnson basically rewrote the Monks' goalkeeping record book, and many of her records are likely to last for years to come.

She is the program's all-time leader in goalkeeper games (74), minutes (5166), goals against average (1.23), wins (52) and shutouts (17). Johnson also owns the single-season bests for games (19, twice), minutes (1393, 2011), wins (13, four times), shutouts (6, 2011), goals against average (0.95, 2011) and save percentage (.882, 2011).

As of November 1st, Johnson ranked fourth among active NCAA DIII keepers in minutes, seventh in save percentage, 12th in goals against average, and 15th in saves.

Johnson has started 74 of the Monks' 77 games over the last four seasons and her play has helped Saint Joseph's lead the NAC in goals against average all four years.

The two-year team captain has also been selected to participate in the 2011 NFHCA Senior Game, which will be played at Nichols College on Saturday, November 19th at 5:30 PM. She will be the first Saint Joseph's player to play in the annual exhibition contest.
