Three Earn 2013 NAC Fall All-Academic Accolades

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's College field hockey seniors Rachelle Messuri (Atkinson, N.H.), Theresa Hendrix (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) and Carley Denis (Lewiston, Maine) have collected North Atlantic Conference (NAC) All-Academic honors.

Ninety-four student-athletes from 15 different institutions who participated in a fall conference sport received recognition. To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached junior academic standing, have competed a minimum two years of varsity competition at their institution with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50.

Messuri, a two-time Second Team All-NAC selection, has now earned five academic honors during her field hockey career, with a pair of NAC All-Academic accolades and three National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) awards. Also a starter on the SJC women's lacrosse team, Messuri has collected a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference Academic honors and was named as a First Team All-GNAC defender last spring.

Hendrix, a three-sport athlete who is also a starter for the Monks' softball and basketball programs, has claimed NAC All-Academic mention for the second-consecutive season. The academic honor is the fifth of her multi-sport collegiate career, as Hendrix has been awarded GNAC All-Academic acclaim on a pair of occasions and also earned NFHCA All-Academic mention in 2012.

For Denis, the academic honor is the second of her NCAA career. The 2013 Second Team All-Conference honoree was listed on the NFHCA All-Academic squad following her junior campaign.

Saint Joseph's went 15-4 overall and 7-2 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play under the watch of ninth-year Head Coach Rupert Lewis during the 2013 campaign. The Monks earned the #2 seed in the NAC Tournament and, with wins over Lasell College and Husson University, advanced to the conference championship where the Royal Blue suffered a 3-1 setback at the hands of top-seeded Castleton State College on November 9th.
