Monks Shut Down Lasers, 2-0

NEWTON, Mass. – The Lasell College field hockey team fell short to the Monks of Saint Joseph's College (Maine) 2-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Grellier Field. With the loss, the Lasers move to 7-8 overall and 3-2 in conference play while the Monks improve to 10-4 overall and remain at number one in the conference at 5-1.

Monks junior Kelsey Dumond (Lewiston, Maine) broke through in the fourth minute of the game as she capitalized from a corner opportunity, netting her ninth goal on the season for a 1-0 lead for the Monks. Freshman Michalia Parent (Westborough, Mass.) was credited with an assist on the play.

The visitors struck again in the 57th minute of the game when Parent potted her 7th goal on the season from a pass sent in Freshman Samantha Silva (Laconia, N.H.).

Lasell was outshot 20-9 and had four corner attempts compared to the Monks' nine.

Sophomore keeper Denise Landry falls to 7-8 overall with thirteen saves in the effort, as Monks freshman goalkeeper Megan Baker (Gorham, Maine) earned the shutout and her seventh win of the season with one save on the day.

The Lasers return to play at home against Framingham St. for a 4:00 p.m. start on Thursday, October 22nd, while St. Joe's hosts UMaine Farmington at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20th.
