STANDISH, Maine - The 2016 Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Squad has been released and seven Saint Joseph's College players have been honored for their efforts in the classroom.
Senior Kelsey Dumond (Lewiston, Maine), juniors Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) and Hayley Winslow (Falmouth, Maine), sophomores Arianna Kahler (Lisbon Falls, Maine), Kayla Veilleux (Sabattus, Maine) and Kayla Kelly (York, Maine), and freshman Libby Pomerleau (Saco, Maine) have earned academic accolades from the national organization.
The Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad includes all student-athletes with a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater through the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year. A total of 1,604 student-athletes hailing from 148 institutions have earned the honor.
There were 208 members of the Division III National Academic Squad who were also named Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction on Thursday for achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or greater through the first semester.
Dumond, an Exercise Science major at Saint Joseph's, earned Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction accolades after recording a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year. The senior forward is one of 11 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey players to claim the high academic award.
