NEWTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (4-3, 3-0 GNAC) defeated Mount Ida College (4-3, 1-2 GNAC), 2-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey action on Saturday evening.
Sophomore Libby Pomerleau (Limerick, Maine) scored both of the goals for the Monks, and Mount Ida was outshot 20-2, not testing junior Megan Baker (Gorham, Maine), who earned the shutout win.
Mustang sophomore Grace Ryan (Livermore Falls, Maine) made eight saves, four in each half, but Pomerleau found the back of the net in both periods, first at the 7:33 mark when she finished a rebound.
She doubled the Monk's advantage at the 42-minute mark with another unassisted tally, her team-leading eighth of the season.
The Mustangs got two shots, neither of them on goal, and also gave up 15 penalty corners, while not earning one for themselves.
Junior Kayla Kelly (York, Maine) was busy for the Monks, taking all of their penalty corners.
Saint Joseph's will host Maine-Farmington in a non-league game on Tuesday at 4:00 PM.
