STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (11-1, 4-0 GNAC) blanked Colby-Sawyer College (6-4, 2-2 GNAC), 5-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday.

THE LEAD

Senior Kayla Veilleux (Sabattus, Maine) tallied two goals and an assist and junior Maddy Beaulieu (West Gardiner, Maine) posted a pair of assists to help the Monks remain undefeated in conference play.

THE REST OF THE STORY

Saint Joseph's netted four goals in the first half, including three on penalty corners, as sophomore Alexandra Belaire (Greene, Maine) opened the scoring with her eighth strike of the season, off a Veilleux assist, at the 9:57 mark.

Veilleux proceeded to score twice in a span of six minutes and senior Kara Kelly (York, Maine) capped the first-half scoring with her fifth goal of the season, off an Arianna Kahler (Lisbon Falls, Maine) pass, in the 32nd minute.

Senior Kayla Kelly (York, Maine) concluded the scoring ledger at the 48:02 mark when she notched her fifth goal of the year. Freshman Emma Rutledge (Alfred, Maine) was credited with an assist on the play.

THE KEEPERS

Saint Joseph's senior Megan Baker (Gorham, Maine) picked up the victory, the 49th of her career, after logging 35 minutes of untested play in goal. Sophomore Alexandria Simpson (Pascoag, R.I.) made one save in 18:49 minutes and freshman Izzy Anton (Mount Vernon, N.H.) posted a pair of stops in 16:11 minutes between the pipes.

Colby-Sawyer sophomore Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) turned away 15 shots in 66:24 minutes before being removed in favor of freshman Julia Carr (York, Maine), who did not face a shot in 3:36 of relief.

TEAM STATS

Saint Joseph's held sizeable leads in shots (27-3), shots on goal (21-3), and penalty corners (12-2) in the victory.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING

With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 4-0 in the history of the series with Colby-Sawyer College, a team the Monks had not faced prior to today's contest since October 26th, 2013. The Monks have outscored the Chargers by a 17-0 margin in the four meetings combined.

Saint Joseph's kicks off a five-game road string with a non-conference tilt at Thomas College on Wednesday at 7:00 PM. Colby-Sawyer plays at Thomas tomorrow at 1:00 PM.
