Monks Receive Votes in Penn Monto/NFHCA DIII National Poll

STANDISH, Maine – The final Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll has been announced and Saint Joseph's College has received votes for the fourth-consecutive week and fifth time this fall.

Saint Joseph's cruised through the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament with a 6-0 semifinal win over Simmons University and a 4-0 triumph over Lasell College in the title game on Saturday en route to clinching the GNAC Championship and an automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament for the third-consecutive season. The Monks will play at Endicott College in the first round of the national tourney tonight at 6:00 PM.

The Saint Joseph's/Endicott winner will travel to Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania on Saturday to take on #1 Messiah College (19-0), which earned a first round bye after winning the Middle Atlantic Conference-Commonwealth Championship over the weekend.

Saint Joseph's, 19-1 overall and 7-0 versus conference foes this fall, has received 59 points and is the second team listed under the 'others receiving votes' section in this week's poll behind University of Lynchburg (61).

Endicott also narrowly missed the top 20 and received 51 points in the final coaches poll.

The 2018 team has set new SJC single-season records for wins, goals (94), assists (75), points (263), shots (477), and shutouts (13) and ranks among the NCAA DIII leaders in assists per game (1st, 3.70), points per game (2nd, 13.10), penalty corners per game (2nd, 14.45), scoring margin (2nd, 4.10), winning percentage (3rd, .950), goals per game (4th, 4.70), shutouts per game (5th, 0.63), save percentage (7th, .855), and goals-against average (7th, 0.54).

Messiah College (19-0) sits atop the national rankings with 718 points and is followed by Middlebury College (17-1, 710 points), Rowan University (20-0, 709), Tufts University (16-2, 627), and Vassar College (18-1, 572) in the top five.

Including Middlebury and Tufts, seven New England programs are listed in the top 20 as #12 Williams College (12-5), #13 Trinity College (12-5), #14 Babson College (15-4), #17 Bowdoin College (11-5), and #18 Hamilton College (10-6) help fill out this week's rankings.
