Field Hockey Class of 2023 Announced

Field Hockey Class of 2023 Announced

STANDISH, Maine – Head Coach Rupert Lewis has announced the field hockey recruiting class of 2023.

Lewis, who will begin his 15th year as the Monks' leader this fall, has guided Saint Joseph's to three-consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships and subsequent NCAA Tournament berths. In 2018, the Monks blanked Lasell College, 4-0, in the conference championship on November 4th and fell to Endicott College, 3-1, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament three days later.

The incoming class features 11 players – all from either Maine or New Hampshire – and includes five midfielders, three forwards, and three defenders. The freshman group will be asked to help replace the significant contributions made by the 2019 graduating class, which was comprised of seven standout players.

The Monks' senior class - comprised of goalkeeper Megan Baker (Gorham, Maine), defenders Meghan Burke (Falmouth, Mass.), Arianna Kahler (Lisbon Falls, Maine) and Kayla Veilleux (Sabattus, Maine), and midfielders Kara Kelly (York, Maine), Kayla Kelly (York, Maine), and Samantha Silva (Laconia, N.H.) - has helped the Royal Blue post a 61-22 (.735) overall record, including a 23-3 (.885) mark in conference play, with three GNAC Championships and a trio of NCAA Tournament appearances over the past four seasons.

"I am excited to begin working with the 2023 Class," adds Coach Lewis. "We will be young this year, but I expect this talented group to quickly acclimate to the speed and skill level of the college game and play an important role in our success going forward."
