GORHAM, Maine – Saint Joseph's College defeated University of Southern Maine, 4-1, in a spring season field hockey contest on Monday evening.
Junior Emma Rutledge (Alfred, Maine) scored a pair of goals while sophomore Cailin Seavey (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) and junior Meghan Hill (Brookline, N.H.) also found the back of the net in the victory. Junior keeper Isabella Anton (Mount Vernon, Vt.) made a pair of saves and junior Anna Walker (Scarborough, Maine) notched an assist for the Monks.
For USM, Mary Keef scored with 28 seconds left in the contest and goalkeeper Julianna Kiklis turned away six shots in a losing effort.
The Monks held the lead in shots (12-5), shots on goal (10-3), and penalty corners (8-6) in the winning performance.
