Monks Finish 38th at NEIGA Championship

BREWSTER, MA - The SJC Golf team recorded a 717 team score to place 38th in the 75th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship at the Captains Golf Course in Brewster, MA on Tuesday. Steve Sands '10 (Westbrook, ME) shaved 16 strokes off his opening round score to post a five-over-par 77 in the final round and carded a team-best 170 on the second day of the event.

University of Connecticut won the event with a collective team score of 582 and Jason Thresher of Bryant University captured medalist honors with a 141 in the 36-hole tournament. American International College was the Division II leader with a 606 score and Salem State led all DIII participants with a 609.

Matt Cotreau '10 (Lunenberg, MA) shot a 173 (90-83) and T.J. Garske '12 (Federal Way, WA) posted a 186 (86-100) for the Monks.

The New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) has been in existence since 1934 and includes 45 member colleges and universities in New England making this the oldest and largest college golf tournament in the country. It is unique in that Divisions I, II and III compete together. This year, the event attracted 200 golfers from 40 New England colleges and universities.
