Monks Finish 10th in Bowdoin College Invitational

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College golf team finished in a tie for 10th with a 670 (340-330) card in the Bowdoin College Invitational at the Brunswick Golf Club over the weekend. Sophomore Michael Caron (Gorham, Maine) led the Monks with a 151 (79-72) score and finished in a tie for seventh individually.

Middlebury College paced the 12-team field with a 601 (302-299) score while Endicott College finished as the runner-up with a 606 (303-303). Providence (606), Bates College (635) and St. Anselm's (645) rounded out the top five programs in the annual event.

Individually, Jamie Ferullo of Providence College led the field of 64 golfers with a 144 (73-71) card while Endicott's Alex Viola placed second with a 145 (72-73) effort. Charlie Garcia (146) of Middlebury, Austin Teal (72-75) of Endicott and Eric Laorr (149) of Middlebury wrapped up the top five finishers.

For the Monks, junior Ryan Berard (Millville, Mass.) posted the best 36-hole score of his career (158, 79-79) and finished in a tie for 16th, senior David Kapelson (Litchfield, N.H.) placed 57th (183, 88-95), sophomore Andrew Berg (Fryeburg, Maine) was 59th (184, 94-90) and freshman Brandon Labrecque (Gorham, Maine) finished 60th (187, 98-89).

The Monks return to the links on Thursday with an appearance in the Maine-Farmington Invitational at Sunday Rivier Golf Club in Newry, Maine.
