Caron Earns Co-Medalist Honors, Monks Finish 4th at UMF Invitational

NEWRY, Maine – Sophomore Michael Caron (Gorham, Maine) captured medalist honors for the third time in his young career to help lead Saint Joseph's College to a fourth-place finish in the University of Maine-Farmington at Sunday Rivier Golf Club on Thursday afternoon.

Caron carded a 75 in the 18-hole event and finished atop a field of 39 golfers along with Maine Maritime Academy junior Keenan Kalthaff, who also shot a 75 on the afternoon. With no tiebreaker or playoff in place, each player was awarded with an equal share of the medalist honor.

With a 320 collective score, Husson University collected top team honors for the 13th time in the last 14 years in the annual event, eight strokes ahead of runner-up University of New England. Maine Maritime placed third (332), Saint Joseph's was fourth and University of Southern Maine finished fifth (342). Bates College (349), Maine-Farmington (356) and Thomas College (396) rounded out the group of competing institutions.

For the Monks, junior Ryan Berard (Millville, Mass.) finished eighth with an 80 score, sophomore John Marcous (Turner, Maine) carded an 88 (21st), sophomore Andrew Berg (Fryeburg, Maine) shot a 98 (32nd) and freshman Brandon Lebrecque (Gorham, Maine) turned in a 100 score (34th).

Saint Joseph's returns to the links this weekend with an appearance in the two-day Maine Intercollegiate Championship at Bangor Municipal Golf Course. The annual championship begins on Saturday morning.
