Saint Joseph's Places 18th at NEIGA Championship

BREWSTER, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College closed out the 2014 season with an 18th place (681, 337-344) finish in the 80th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship at The Captains Course on Sunday and Monday. Sophomore Michael Caron (Gorham, Maine) led the Monks and finished in a tie for sixth overall with a 153 (78-75) card.

With the finish, Caron becomes the first player in Saint Joseph's golf history to collect All-New England Team honors, which are bestowed upon the top six finishers for all three divisions. Last season, Caron posted a 150 score and placed eighth to become the first SJC linker to place in the top 10 overall.

Junior Ryan Berard (Millville, Mass.) placed in a tie for 45th with a 164 (84-80) score, freshman Brandon Labrecque (Gorham, Maine) was 98th (187, 89-98), freshman Matt Galvin (Derry, N.H.) finished 101st (191, 100-91), and senior David Kapelson (Litchfield, N.H.) placed 103rd (193, 86-107).

Rhode Island College captured the NCAA DIII crown with a 615 (316-299) card, well ahead of runner-up Babson College, which posted a 629 (319-310). Western New England was third (630, 321-309), Husson University – the leader after day one with a 313 score – fell to fourth with a 637 (313-324) and Elms College rounded out the top five grouping with a 642 (320-322) collective card.

Individually, Endicott's Austin Teal earned medalist honors with a 147 (74-73) card while Babson's Pranav Mohan and Husson's Greg Pike finished in a tie for second with identical 149 (77-72) scores. Jonathan Cooper from RIC was fourth (150, 76-74) and Greg Martin from Husson finished fifth (152, 77-75).
