Southern Maine Tops Saint Joseph’s in Head to Head Match-up

GORHAM, Maine –  Playing a nine-hole match at the Gorham Country Club, University of Southern Maine junior captain Tom Murray (Bangor, Maine) and junior Shawn Francoeur (Windham, Maine) each fired a 35 to lead the Huskies to a 148-177 win over the Saint Joseph's College Monks in a season-opening golf match Tuesday afternoon. 

The Huskies and the Monks played the back-nine of the Gorham Country Club teeing off on the 10th hole.  Murray and Francoeur each finished the round one-under for the course.  Juniors Alex Carroll (Searsport, Maine), Joe Francoeur (Windham, Maine) and freshman Shaun McKinnon (Rocky Hill, Conn.) rounded out the scoring five for the Huskies.  Carroll shot a 38, while Francoeur posted a 40.  McKinnon turned in a strong 43 in his first intercollegiate performance. 

Junior Mike Caron (Gorham, Maine), freshman Adam Hachey (Winthrop, Maine) and senor Ryan Berard (Millville, Mass./Mount Saint Charles Academy) each carded a 44 to pace St. Joseph's College.  Sophomore Matt Galvin (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) turned in a 45, while senior Jason Riley (Dedham, Mass.) shot a 47.

Both programs return to action on Thursday (10:00 a.m.) at the UMaine Farmington Invitational at the Waterville Country Club.
