Monks Take Thomas Invitational Title

WATERVILLE, Maine – Freshman Cam Letourneau (Hebron, Maine) carded a 73 (36-37) to earn the first medalist honor of his NCAA career and lead Saint Joseph's College to a top finish in the Thomas College Invitational at Waterville Country Club on Wednesday. The Monks produced a 297-team card, 10 strokes better than runner-up Maine Maritime Academy, to clinch their third win of the season.

For Saint Joseph's, freshman Adam Hachey (Winthrop, Maine) shot a 74 (35-39) and finished in a tie for second overall with teammate Adam Batchelder (Portland, Maine/Cheverus), who posted a 37 card on the front and back nines.

Junior captain Michael Caron (Gorham, Maine) shot a 76 (37-39) and was tied for sixth and sophomore Brandon Labrecque (Gorham, Maine) finished in a tie for 21st (88, 44-44).

Maine-Farmington (327), Colby College (336), Thomas (352) and Maine-Presque Isle (361) also competed in the event.

Saint Joseph's will participate in the Husson University Invitational at Bangor Municipal Golf Course this weekend.

 

BEYOND THE SCORECARD:

  • Today's top finish marks the first time in the last 16 years that the SJC Golf program has won more than two events in the same season
  • St. Joe's has now captured three Thomas College Invitational titles (2000, 2007, 2015)
  • Batchelder posted a personal-best score in today's tourney – four strokes better than his previous top card
