Golf Team Wins Fifth Consecutive Tourney

KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine – Freshman Cam Letourneau (Hebron, Maine) earned his second medalist honor of the season to help Saint Joseph's College win the rain-shortened University of New England Invitational at Cape Arundel Golf Club on Friday.

Letourneau carded an even-par 35, one stroke better than UNE's Sam Kinasewich, as the Monks claimed their fifth-consecutive tournament crown. The annual event was cut short due to steady rainfall as the group of four competing institutions played nine holes rather than the typical 18.

For the Monks, senior Ryan Berard (Millville, Mass.) shot a 36 and placed third overall, junior Michael Caron (Gorham, Maine) carded a 39, freshman Adam Hachey (Winthrop, Maine) posted a 40, and freshman Adam Batchelder (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) added a 51.

Saint Joseph's has now won the UNE Invitational six times since 1999. Today's victory is the program's first in the annual event since 2007.

Endicott College came in next with 154, with the University of Southern Maine and the Nor'easters rounding out the group at 159.

Saint Joseph's looks to continue the successful string in the 36-hole USM Fall Classic, which begins at 11:00 AM at Gorham Country Club on Sunday.
