GORHAM, Maine -- In the closest finish in the 18-year history of the event, the University of Southern Maine golf team prevailed on a tiebreaker to win the annual USM Cup Friday at the Gorham Country Club.

Southern Maine and Saint Joseph's College tied with team scores of 211 (2 under par).  Going to the tiebreaker of team aggregate score (11-13) on the number one handicap hole (5th hole, par 4), USM was declared the winner.  The University of Maine at Farmington was third at 216.

The unique format of the Cup calls for three pairs of players from each school playing six holes of best ball, six holes of scramble format, and the final six holes in an alternate shot format.

Four groups posted the low round of the day at 3-under par 68.
