Monks Finish Second in USM Cup

GORHAM, Maine – Saint Joseph's College finished second with a 209 card in the University of Southern Maine Cup at the Gorham Country Club on Friday.

The unique format of the Cup calls for three pairs of players from each school playing six holes of best ball, six holes of scramble format, and the final six holes in an alternate shot format.

Southern Maine, led by the 64 card posted by the duo of Ryan Dee and Greg Kalagias, claimed the title with a 203 card while University of New England (214) and UMaine-Farmington (226) rounded out the participants in this year's event. The 64 score, seven under par, is the lowest recorded in the 19-year history of the USM Cup.

Saint Joseph's was led by Cam Letourneau (Hebron, Maine) and Adam Batchelder (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) as the senior pairing posted a 66, a score that tied the previous top card in USM Cup history. Adam Hachey (Winthrop, Maine) and Tyler Johnson (Windham, Maine) shot a 70 and the duo of Brendan Donovan (Auburn, Maine) and Brian McGuire (Braintree, Mass.) shot a 73.

Saint Joseph's will compete in the 36-hole USM Fall Invitational on Sunday and Monday.
