Monks Finish Second in John Queenan Memorial Tournament

CASCO, Maine – Saint Joseph's College finished second with a 316 team card in the 17th Annual John Queenan Memorial Tournament at the Point Sebago Golf Resort on Tuesday.

The yearly tournament is named in memory of John Queenan, a 2003 graduate of Bow High School who died tragically in an automobile accident just prior to the beginning of his freshman year as a student-athlete at Saint Joseph's. John's parents – Joann and John Queenan – traveled to Casco today to attend the tournament and meet the 2019 SJC golf team.

University of Southern Maine, led by Medalist Brendan Croteau, claimed the team title for the second-consecutive season with a 310 collective score. Croteau shot a 74 (36-38) to earn the individual crown.

The Monks were off to an outstanding start and held a 10-stroke lead over the Huskies after shooting one-over par the first nine holes, but the hosts faltered on the back nine while USM registered consistent scores en route to the tourney triumph.

University of New England finished third (328), UMaine-Farmington was fourth (336), and Maine Maritime Academy placed fifth (355).

For the Monks, freshman Cody Rizzo (West Gardiner, Maine) turned in a 76 (36-40), first-year Trevor Flanagan (Monmouth, Maine) shot a 77 (36-41), senior Brendan Donovan (Auburn, Maine) posted an 80 (38-42), and Tyler Johnson (Windham, Maine) notched an 83 (35-48) card. Freshman Sean McDonough (Concord, N.H.) was the Monks' fifth scorer with a 91 (46-45).

Saint Joseph's will resume play this weekend with an appearance in the Bowdoin Invitational. The two-day tournament will be held at the Brunswick Country Club.
