GNAC Tabs Kelley as Player of the Week

STANDISH, ME - The Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced today that Saint Joseph's junior Tyler Kelley (Saco, ME/Thornton Academy) has been selected as the GNAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the reporting period ending December 13th.

In wins over conference opponents Johnson & Wales and Suffolk last week, Kelley averaged 19.5 PPG, 6.5 RPG and 1.5 APG and sported impressive success rates from the field (.608), beyond the arc (.444) and the FT line (.875). The junior guard netted 23 points and 9 boards against JWU on December 10th and 16 points against Suffolk on December 12th.

Kelley currently ranks 5th in the GNAC in three-point percentage (.459, 17-37), 6th in scoring (16.4 PPG), 7th in field goal percentage (.542, 45-83) and 7th in three-pointers made (17).

Kelley set a new SJC single-season record for three-point percentage (.491, 54-110) as a sophomore and his career rate (.455, 81-178) also ranks as the best in Monks Basketball history. The junior sharpshooter notched his 500th career point with a bucket in the first minute of the second half against Suffolk on Saturday and has paced the Royal Blue in scoring in three games this season.

For Kelley, the weekly conference honor is the first of his career. St. Joe's has accounted for half of the GNAC Player of the Week honors so far this season, as sophomore swingman Zach O'Brien (Schenectady, NY) also received the weekly accolade on November 30th.

Saint Joseph's, 6-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play, will face off against Farmingdale State (NY) on Saturday, January 2nd at 3:00 PM.
