2010-11 Monks Basketball Captains Announced

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's Men's Basketball Coach Robert Sanicola '99 has announced his team captains for the 2010-11 season. Juniors Zach O'Brien (Schenectady, NY) and Chris Petzy (Kensington, NH) have been selected to help lead the Monks, on and off the court, as the team looks to contend for the GNAC Championship this winter.

O'Brien led the Royal Blue in scoring as a sophomore, with 378 points and a 14.5 PPG average in 2009-10. He also notched 5.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game and shot 75.3% (70-93) from the charity stripe en route to earning All-GNAC Second Team honors last winter.

Petzy broke out with an impressive second season and emerged as one of the Monks' top scoring threats as a sophomore. He averaged 13.7 points and 3.2 caroms per game and led the team in three-point efficiency with a 43.6% (44-101) success rate from downtown. He also paced the Monks in free-throw percentage, with a 78.5% (51-65) rate, and shot 51% (131-257) from the floor, an outstanding mark for a shooting guard.

Saint Joseph's went 19-7 overall and notched a 14-4 record in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play last season under Coach Sanicola, who is entering his eighth year as the Monks' clipboard carrier.
